I started on inline skates, racing marathons and track events across Europe from 2017 onwards. By 2022 I’d won World and European titles and finished third overall in the World Cup. Powerslide’s Matter Racing Team, which I raced for, won the World Cup team title for six consecutive years.

In 2018, I started training on ice as well, working toward long track speed skating alongside my inline career.

I broke every individual junior record in Belgium during the 2019-2020 season and qualified for the mass-start final at the 2020 World Juniors.

For a couple of years after that, I lost interest in ice skating. Becoming world champion in inline skating mattered more to me, and that’s where my focus went.

The goal became the team pursuit at the Milan Olympics, racing alongside Bart Swings and Indra Médard. We’d already taken European silver together in the relay. A Team Pursuit medal was a real, credible target, not just a nice idea. In 2025, I decided not to take part in the World Championships so I could focus on preparing for the Olympics.

In late September 2025, a rider went down in front of me during a mass start at Thialf. I couldn’t avoid the boards and broke my ankle. My team and I didn’t give up on the season straight away. Belgium tried another skater in the team pursuit slot at a World Cup, but it wasn’t enough to qualify. I wasn’t part of the six athletes Belgium sent to Milan.

I got back on inline skates within months and made my comeback at the World Skate marathon in Shanghai in late March 2026. Two weeks later, on 10 April 2026, I was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. It left me with serious facial injuries, a broken hip, and a broken wrist, and I very nearly lost my sight.

I spent close to two weeks in intensive care at UZ Leuven, followed by further complicated surgery on my arm. Speaking was difficult for a while, so many of the early updates from the hospital went through my coach and my team rather than me directly.

I’m writing this from the other side of that, though recovery is still ongoing. I don’t have a neat ending yet, because I’m still living the next chapter. What I can say is that this is now a story about being knocked down twice in the space of a year, and choosing, both times, to get back up.

I’m still with the same coach. The ice team has ended, however, so I’m looking for a new team.

Powerslide is still with me every month; nothing’s changed there. They’re like family to me. And there’s no restriction on me picking up other sponsors alongside them.

Through everything that’s happened, I believe I must have a guardian angel. Everything is possible if you have real faith in God.

My story so far is only part of the journey. I’ll come back stronger than ever.

“Hello everyone, as u know I was involved in a traffic accident that nearly took my life, but by God’s grace I’m still here. I’ve stayed quiet because this was something deeply personal, and I needed time for myself. Now I’m back training again. The hunger, the ambition, and the mindset to become and stay the best never left. This is only a part of the journey, and I’ll come back stronger than ever. Thank you to everyone who supported me during this time. Every message, prayer, and every bit of support truly meant a lot. Isaiah 41:10.”
